The Adriatic Sea is a semi-enclosed basin of the Mediterranean sea, which extends deep into the middle part of the European continent. Its western and northern parts border with Italy and Slovenia, with Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece to its east. The Adriatic Sea is about 800km long and about 200km wide. It is linked to the Mediterranean through the Strait of Otranto.

Croatia's coast stretches along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea it is partially bordered by an archipelago consisting of over a thousand islands, of which 60 are inhabited. The work of Blue World takes place in the areas surrounding the islands of Lošinj in the north and Vis in the central Adriatic.

The office of Blue World is located in the very heart of Veli Lošinj. The house for researchers and volunteers is just 50 metres away on a hill with a fantastic view of the Kvarnerić, Pag and Velebit. The research boat is moored in the harbor next to the educational center.
