The major scientific research interest of Blue World is the study of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in the Adriatic sea, implemented through the Adriatic Dolphin Project. Initiated in 1987 it is now the longest continuous study of a population of bottlenose dolphins in the Mediterranean Sea.

In addition to the waters of Cres and Losinj, the Adriatic Dolphin Project has been operating around the island of Vis since 2008. The Adriatic Dolphin Project is now recognized worldwide as an example of good practice which is reflected in numerous international partners and cooperation with experts from the fields of biology and ecology of marine mammals.

Apart from marine mammals, Blue World works in partnership with the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb, on the study of population, biology and interactions with fishing of the loggerhead turtle and sharks of the Adriatic.
